Pregnancy is a major medical event in a woman's life. Women used to have a village of people to support them through this process from before, during, and after pregnancy. Now, in modern times, women do not have as big of a supportive network. They may have moved far from home, are not as social, have children later in life, etc.

This application was created with women in mind to find support through their pregnancy journey.

It takes a village…

  1. What concerns did you have about pregnancy?

  2. Did you try to connect with other pregnant women online or in person?

  3. Why did you want or not want to connect with other pregnant women?

  4. What concerns would you have about connecting with other pregnant women?

Social Media revolves around content feed. I decided to make the home page a show discussions based on groups joined, trending, and recommended.

Users can join and view discussions that are posted in specific interest groups. This space allows users to ask question and crowd source answers from other users in the groups.

Users can direct message another user if they want to have a more private discussion.

Users can search and find events a specific group may be hosting or in chronological order using a calendar for events on specific dates.

After narrowing down the scope to community building features, I started to sketch out possibilities for the application layout. I allowed my designs to be influenced by other community building social media applications such as Reddit, Whatsapp, and Meetup.

Potential Application Features

Open Survey for Pregnant Women

Standout Comments from the Survey

"I find comfort in knowing that other people are having similar issues as me”

“I spoke with my doctor, took an online course, used some pregnancy apps, and joined Facebook groups”

“It helps to talk to others going through the same thing”

“Wish I knew more about the birth experience and the postpartum experience

as most apps and online communities don't talk about the subject.”

“I would be interested in joining general pregnancy groups, pregnancy groups

for people with different medical conditions, and local pregnancy groups.”

The competitive analysis showed there were 9 main categories the apps focused on.

The home page feed shows which group the discussions belong to, the age of the discussion, and popularity.

The popularity of the group is shown based on the number of members.

Users can direct message each other directly from the discussion posts.

Events shown on a calendar were difficult to view and click. The Calendar view was updated to show events in chronological order instead with the option to view this week, this month, or all events.
